program that calculates delay times (in milliseconds) for each type of
rhythmic value (ie. quarter note, triplet half-note, dotted whole-note,
etc.), given a tempo in beats-per-minute (BPM). Conversely, if you enter a
number of milliseconds for any type of note-value, StudioCalc will tell you
what the tempo is, in BPM, and will fill in the rest of the note chart
accordingly. Using StudioCalc is easy - just click in any numerical field,
type a number and hit ReCalculate ( or type ENTER or RETURN). The whole
chart is updated based on the last number you typed in.

 CD Coyote 1.0.1 - CD Coyote is a program for CD-ROM drive users who listen
to audio CD's and have written disc information (disk titles and song
names) to the CD Remote. Coyote helps you make a TEXT file of information
which has been entered into CD Remote. When saving a text file, you can
choose to get disc titles, get track names, number disc titles and number
track names. You can also choose the disk anc track delimiters (for easy
importing into other documents). CD Coyote requires System 7 and CD Remote.

 Tap 1.2 - Tap is a program that accurately derives a tempo reading from a
user's tap input. Unlike other tap algorithms such as those in drum
machines and most sequencers, Tap displays a running average tempo starting
with the very first tap and hence, it gets more accurate the longer one
taps. Other algorithms only take into account the last 4 or 8 taps and
because the human finger is not that precise, nor will be the tempo. Future
versions of Tap will hopefully use Midi and Audio as other sources of
Tempo. Complete instructions are included.

 Music Thru - "Music Thru" allows you to turn your Macintosh into a "Public
Address System" of sorts. You will have to have a Macintosh with a
microphone port, and some sound source plugged into it. We designed "Music
Thru" to allow us to play Audio CDs through the microphone port on an LC II
and then output the sound through the Macintosh speakers."Music Thru"
backgrounds nicely in System 7, so you can listen to those CDs while you
work! If you own a Centris, IIvx or Quadra, you can do this already with an
internal CD player... but we only had an LC II!  I hope you enjoy this
completely free piece of software!

 Movie2snd 1.0 - Movie2Snd is a very simple application which extracts
soundtracks from QuickTime movies. Drop-launch a movie onto the application
(or choose a movie from the open dialog). You will be prompted for a
location for the resulting sound file. That sound file is a plain ol'
System 7 sound file that can be played by opening (double clicking).
Movie2Snd does all of its work in memory, so you'll need to set the
application memory size large enough to accommodate the sound. 1/2 of the
target movie's file size is a good rule of thumb (use VM for large movies).

 Belch! 2.0 - Belch! is a little Extension that causes your Mac to have a
case of indigestion - it lets out a nasty belch every once in a while. This
Extension is fun to put on your friend's (or co-worker's) Macintosh... sit

Folder of the machine you wish to give indigestion and restart it.

 SoundSet FKEY 1.0 - SoundSet is a small FKEY that sets up a dialog and lets
you quickly set the sound volume, either with the mouse or with the
keyboard. Typing 0-7 will set the sound volume accordingly; typing Return,
Enter, Esc or Backspace will leave it where it is. If the Caps Lock key is
down, the dialog doesn't pop up and the sound volume is directly set to 0.
After the sound volume has been changed, the standard beep will be played
at the new volume.

 SoundExtractor 1.31 - Do you remember those sound suitcases created with
utilities like SoundMover or SoundEdit? Each of them contained one or more
sound resources. They were (and still are) a very popular way of storing
sounds. When System 7.0 was released, we saw that one of the new Finder’s
features was to play a sound by clicking on its icon. The problem is that
this can’t be done with sound suitcases. Here is where SoundExtractor comes
in. Just drag a suitcase on top of SoundExtractor’s, and a new folder will
be created. This folder will have a custom icon of a folder with a little
speaker on it, and it will contain all the sounds that were in the sound
suitcase. But now, double-clicking on the sounds will play them!

 Description:
 SoundCaser 1.01 for 7.1 - SoundCaser is a quick hack I wrote to take my
sounds off the System file under System 7.1. It works pretty much like the
old Font/DA Mover but it moves sound resources intead of fonts. In fact,
creating a new sound file will create a font suitcase with a custom icon
that makes it look like a sound suitcase; moving this suitcase inside
System 7.1's Font folder (inside the System folder) will make the Mac
believe it's a font suitcase, so it will be opened and all its sounds will
be available in the Sound control panel right away. All this could be done
manually with ResEdit, but it's a lot easier to do it with SoundCaser.

 Parrot 1.0b1 - The author wrote this hack for a Halloween party. This was
in the "confusion" room. A microphone picked up sounds that guests made,
and at random intervals, they heard their own voices played at other parts
of the room. The hack listens to the sound input device and remembers
everything it hears (that is loud enough) and then plays those things back
in a random order. If your Mac has stereo capability, then it also randomly
chooses a speaker to play each sound. The more memory the program has
allocated, the more sounds it remembers. Source code is included. Requires
a Mac with a microphone, and System 7.

 Mono2Stereo 1.0 - What Mono2Stereo does is very simple - it takes two mono
sounds and merges them into one stereo sound. Just open the left and right
sounds with the "Open..." command in the File menu, then choose "Save
As...". If you’ve got a stereo-capable Mac, which either mixes the left and
right channels into one mono channel (Mac LC) or outputs true stereo from
the speaker port (Mac IIs and Quadras), you’ll be able to play the sound
just by double-clicking the sound file in the Finder. Mono2Finder requires
System 7.0 or later, and stereo sounds will be succesfully created on any
Mac, but they won’t play on the following Macintoshes - Mac Plus, SE,
Classic, Mac Portable, PowerBook 100.

 Description:
 LoopSound 1.0 - WHY LOOP? I like to record sounds that can be looped; that
is, they can be played over and over without any noticeable click at the
end of each playback. SoundEdit lets you do that easily (you can play a
loop by holding down the shift key when clicking on the "play" icon), but
once you've saved the sound there's no way to loop it from the Finder. Many
of my sounds don't even sound good if they're not looped, so I wrote this
little application to play my loops. Just drop a System 7 sound file on
LoopSound's icon and it will be played forever (until you quit LoopSound or
drop another sound on it). System 7 is required.

 AsyncFamily1.14.cpt - Tired of waiting while your Mac finishes playing an
extra-long beep? Here comes the Async Family. Drop Mr.Player and Mr.Beeper
in your system folder, select a new system beep (a LONG one) in Mr.Beeper's
control panel and restart your Mac. All your system beeps will be
asynchronous, and if you have a Mac with the Apple Sound Chip (all Macs but
the 68000-based have it) you'll hear more than one beep at a time. You may
also drop AIFF and System 7 sound files on Mr. Drop to play them while you
keep working (multi-megabyte files can be played without any trouble).

 ModVoicer 1.1 - ModVoicer will let you open MOD files one at a time. It
prefers files with SoundTrecker's signature, but will try to open anything
you choose. The MOD file detection is minimal at this point. Once the file
is open, you'll get a window with a list of the valid sample in the MOD.
Double-clicking on a list item, or selection of several will open a window
for each voice (up to 10 voices). When a sound window is in the front of
the screen any noncommand keys will trigger the sound to be played at a
frequency related to the ASCII of the key. The author's fascination with
those cool amiga MOD files lead him/her to do this.

programs - Sound Mover 1.9, which includes the functions of the previously
separate Sound->snd; SndControl 2.2.2, a Control Panel that allows you to

startup time any number of sounds you copy into it (using Sound Mover) and
IBeep2, a very primitive version of SndControl to be used under older

 Compact Disk Time Adder 1 - This is a very helpful FileMaker Pro template
for anyone who makes tapes from CD's, records or other tapes. This is a
very simple template. You simply list the songs and times, and CD Time
Adder will add up the total time that will be needed. Great for deciding
how to put 45 minutes on a tape, and even better for people who don't like
to bother with adding up minutes!

 SoundTrack - SoundTrack is a drag–and–drop application that does only one
thing - it saves the soundtrack of a QuickTime movie as an AIFF file. To
use it, either drag a QuickTime movie on top of SoundTrack, or launch
SoundTrack and choose "Select File…" from the file menu. The soundtracks
are saved as the name of the movie, with an '!' after the original name. To
change the creator of the file, use ResEdit to change the 'TEMP' 128
resource. SoundTrack is free, as it was pretty much a no–brainer to write.
It's based on DropShell and various chunks of Apple's QuickTime sample
code. Thanks, guys! SoundTrack requires QuickTime version 1.6 or greater,
since I don't think that the AIFF stuff is in QuickTime 1.5.

 PC Beep - PC Beep is rather simple little sound that emulates a PC's (IBM)
sound. It is useful for many different reasons - 1. It is much shorter than
the standard Macintosh beep. 2. It sounds better than the normal Macintosh
beep. 3. It adds to the awe of Soft PC. 4. If you have ever been in a
telecommunications program, and are suddenly sent 20 or so beeps from
another computer, your computer doesn't lock up playing beeps. 5. To this
date, 100% of the Macintosh users we polled prefer PC Beep over the
standard Macintosh beep. It is a cute sound.

 BrianSound tool1.2 - This is a "quick and dirty" program to do drag and
drop conversion to and from Windoze .WAV files and Mac sound files. If you
open a non-Mac file with it, it will convert it to a Mac file, and if you
open a Mac file, it will convert it to a Windoze .WAV file. The output
options are fairly limited. For input however, a Mac file is a system 7
sound file, an FSSD file (with or without HCOM compression), or a system
file or sound mover suitcase.

 WAVEwindow 1.0 - WaveWindow(TM) is a software oscilloscope. Very useful for
anyone who works with sound on the Macintosh, educational, and fun to play
with. It displays sound visually on your screen in real-time. Several
different modes, including dynamic color waveforms. Requires System 6.0.7
(or greater) and a Macintosh with microphone-input. Supports the Built-in
Mic, MacRecorder, VoiceLink, any device that follows Mac protocol. Supports
COLOR and B&W. Easy to use, try singing into the microphone. After you get
the basic idea, experiment with 'Preferences'. There are several different
synchronization and display modes. Try the 'Lissajous Figures' in 'Async'
mode and play an 'F' on your favorite instrument. Wow!

 Fanfare - Fanfare is fun little freeware init that sounds the trumpets when
you start your Mac and plays a sound (sounds like a computer powering down)

up!!

 Vol Setter FKEY 1.0b1 - This program is in the form of an FKEY, which means
that it is accessed by typing the key combination Command-Shift-<number>,
where in this case the number is 8, though this number may be changed using
Suitcase or a similar utility. This FKEY allows the user to set the volume
level used for system beeps and some other sounds quickly, without all the
tedious mucking around in the Control Panel. This FKEY should work on all
Macintoshes.

record the sounds, then have to open up the System file and copy the sounds
into a suitcase. This application requires System 7.0

 SndPlayer 2.1 - SndPlayer is an application which lets you listen to
sounds stored in several different formats, and it also helps you find
them. It is System 7-friendly, and has balloon help, Apple events (for
file, folder and disk dropping), normal, reverse, random play order,
repeat options, info about the sounds, etc. The formats currently

names are case sensitive.  If one has eight SUS's, then the files should be

of beep sounds...particularly suited for a business interest or home
environment where even the standard beep tone can turn into an annoyance.
We didn't deviate too far... meaning we followed the original beep sound
guidelines of replicating the tone of a jet liner when the 'no smoking' or
'fasten your set belts' sign  lights up. Descriptively speaking it is a
bell sound with no attack, sustained decay, then a gentle release.  Just
